Communication in Relationships

Relationships do not exist without people, who have a common goal or binding force.  It involves at least two people  who bring their own past experiences, history and expectations into it. Communication  is the transmission of information, ideas, feelings from one person to another or one group to another.

What communication does is that it allows you to connect  with your partner,  know what they are feeling at a particular time,  understand  them even better,  and create a lasting bond. Another important thing communication  does in relationships  is enhancing growth.
When I was an undergraduate, during one of the business communication class sessions, it was taught that communication is the life blood of every relationship. Once communication ceases, the existing relationship gradually dies. I often say that if you  do not tell someone else you are hurt  or do not show it,  no one would know. You'll even be more hurt. When your friends, spouse or relations offend you and you keep it all to yourself, you only hurt yourself more.
From research carried out, aprokomag  discovered  that most relationships  have stronger communication  at its start or early stage. After about six months to a year,  the communication  goes dim.  Communication  extends also to signs,  symbols and body language.  Everyone has an extent to which they can interpret  certain  actions.  And once there's a misinterpretation it leads to communication breakdown  which results to misunderstanding a source. Since communication is a two way process, parties or a party in any relationship often gets tired or bored of doing all the communication thing.
In romantic relationships,  we often create a high standard  at the very start.  You call your partner "almost every second", you are always checking up on them,  showing care and affection, but as the relationship progresses, the pace gradually lowers,  then your partner starts complaining and probably tries to man the game too. However when your partner tries and nothing seems to be working,  they  get tired and the communication slackens. Different problems will start building up, misconception and haboured thoughts too.
The Law of communication expects perseverance. When you go far beyond your limit from the  start,  you will have difficulty in maintaining that pace.  So if your just starting, take things slowly.
Communication gaps may also be attributed to our present day challenges,  perhaps  things are not going on well in your work place,  financially or emotionally, but this shouldn't  affect communication. Like someone rightly said the magic is not falling in love,  the magic is staying in love. We all fall in love at one point in life,  but being able to keep that love is the real deal. Communication helps achieve that.  There should be no space for malice.  If an issue has turned to a problem,  it should be resolved before it escalates. Many times we ourselves build up the fence and barriers that kill communication  as it invariably kills the relationship.
Ladies are wired in such a way that a healthy communication assures them of security in their relationship, and when their partners relent,  you won't even know when she gradually withdraws.  This is not to say that the sole responsibility of communication lies with the guys. Hence it is pertinent to take conscious steps to strengthen communication.
- When we're knee deep within a serious discussion or argument with our significant other,  it won't kill to put aside our point for the moment and just listen.
- Force yourself to hear,  be open and honest with your partner.
- You must also pay attention to non verbal signals. Non verbal communication is your body language, tone of your voice,  it's inflection, eye contact and other silent reactions. In learning to communicate better,  you should be able to read the non verbal activities and understand what your partner is saying. As you read your partner's non-verbal signal,  be aware of your own. Make and maintain eye contact,  keep a neutral body stance and tone to your voice.
- One party needs to make an effort to de-escalate an argument, even if it means walking away from it literally; but do so as respectfully as possible.
Lack of communication is a red flag!
